1,000 kilometers across the Taunus

The Taunus Bikepacking Race was the highlight of the season for me. It is one of the most famous races in Germany and therefore held a special appeal for me. With 17 female starters, it was also the largest women's field in the history of this event – a great sign!

Short distances are just not for me!

The route is breathtakingly scenic and technically easy to ride, which makes it ideal for beginners. There are no insurmountable passages, just smooth riding through impressive natural scenery. The organizer's family-like atmosphere makes the race something special. Many participants return again and again—and now I can understand why.

I've realized that short distances just aren't my thing. Hard interval training isn't for me—long and slow is my pace. That's where I feel comfortable. And even though I don't have much time in my everyday life with work and family, it's enough for this kind of challenge – even if it means getting up at 4 a.m.

This race brought with it many “firsts”: my first tubeless flat, which fortunately was easily sealed with sealant – and lasted a full 900 km. Restless nights, which I never usually have when I sleep outside. I had underestimated the cool temperatures, but warmer clothing made things better. Fortunately, a minor fall in a freshly graveled curve also had no consequences. On the last day, there were inexplicable problems with the bike – steering became difficult. I had concerns, especially on the descents, but I decided to keep riding as long as I could.

And I did – all the way to the finish line.
